Elizabeth: He’s clear on all the pre-op workup.

Matt: Okay, I need you to scrub in and find out if Nurse Johnson’s available.

Elizabeth: Yes, Doctor.

Nadine: Wait a second. The patient hasn’t agreed to surgery or to you as the surgeon.

Matt: The patient’s spleen resembles a watermelon dropped from a second-floor window onto the sidewalk. Any questions?

Nadine: This doctor can’t be trusted.

Matt: Watch it, Nurse Crowell.

Maxie: You know, you’re starting to upset Spinelli. His pain, I think, is getting worse.

Nadine: I’m going to page Dr. Drake.

Maxie: Just hold on, Spinelli. Okay, just do the surgery. Just do the surgery.

Matt: Mr. Spinelli? Get him prepped, we’re going to the O.R.

Maxie: Please, God, for once in my life, let this be the right decision.

Matt: There it is, ladies and gentlemen, the overlooked, the under-appreciated spleen. Unlike the heart, once damaged, it cannot be repaired, so Mr. Spinelli will have to live without it. Scalpel.

Nadine: Did you check the liver? There might be a hematoma on the liver capsule.

Matt: I will check all the organs in the exploratory phase. Clamp.

Nadine: Make sure you tie off that artery securely so he doesn’t have internal bleeding post-op.

Epiphany: Take care of your own work, Nurse Crowell.

Matt: Retractor. Nurse?

Nadine: Are you sure you didn’t rupture the diaphragm?

Matt: Get out of my O.R.

Epiphany: Nurse Crowell.

Nadine: You’re going to explore the bowels, right?

Epiphany: Nurse Crowell, leave this O.R. and consider yourself on report. Now!

Matt: Go.

Matt: Clamp.

Matt: The surgery was a success. Everything went very well.

Maxie: Epiphany, how did the surgery really go?

Matt: Oh, yes, by all means, get a second opinion, especially from a nurse. After all, I’m only the surgeon who saved the man’s life, but what do I know?

Epiphany: Matthew Hunter is one of the most annoying and arrogant residents I have seen in a long time, but he is still a doctor and therefore, deserves our respect. Your constant badgering in the O.R. was a major problem. So from now on, you will give him the respect he deserves, as will my entire staff. Do I make myself perfectly clear?

Nadine: Yes.

Epiphany: As for his surgery, Dr. Hunter did a fine job. Mr. Spinelli should be up and about and into his usual antics in no time.

Maxie: Good. I’m glad that you were there.

Epiphany: Just doing my job.

Maxie: Is it okay if I see him?

Epiphany: He’s resting, but be brief.

Nadine: You know, Epiphany’s pretty upset with me, but I would have felt ten kinds of awful if the surgery had gone wrong because of me.

Leyla: I’m not sure I could have forgiven you, either.
